HUS vs FANA pre-season game 05/04/2018
The first competitive game of 2018 for BRK saw a run out between Bergen Hus vs Fana RK – tense moments were had as the boundary lines were drawn on the map to decide the player pools.
The excitement of competitive rugby must have run deep within Hordaland as several of the older BRK Norge rugby champions coming out of the woodwork to flaunt their rugby talents once again. There have been no competitive games since October 2017, a drought of almost 6 months! Everyone was eager to play!
The new squads for Hus and Fana had some team talks and warm-ups in the snow before kicking off the first of 2 x 12 a side games
Game 1 Hus vs Fana
Hus won the coin toss (rock paper scissors) and chose to receive the ball. Strong carries from George Douglas had Fana on the back foot, before going off injured. After shipping the ball wide, Hus ran in a spectacular try down the left touchline, great hands between 4 Hus players had the Fana defence tripping over their feet, with the try being scored by Christophe Benquet in the corner. A touchline conversion from Gavin McQueen added the extras.
In the second half, the Fana penalty count kept them in their own 22, sustaining pressure and eventually a well worked try from Hus, with Francisco Blanco scoring under the posts after weaving through the defensive line.
Final score 14-7
Game 2 Fana vs Hus
The second game painted quite the different picture. Hus received the kickoff, and started the game well. However, Fana were hungry, and eager to get on the score board. After turning over the ball from Hus, Fana were camped in the oppositions 22. The lack of possession for Hus took its toll. Sam Hedger scoring off a tap penalty from the Hus 5 metre line, he converted to add the extras.
Hus rallied, with some tight forward play, creating space on the wing for Scott Bremer to run in from 50 meters out – who said Kiwis can’t fly!? This time the touchline conversion was missed.
Half time 7-5
Fana started the stronger in the second half, dominating the rucks and stealing a lot of ball from the opposition. The constant attacking pressure from Fana’s Erlend Raastad, who’s strong running and line breaks, had them score a well worked try. His 40 metre line break and offload to Alex Diessner, (the video ref Scott Ingram, concluded no forward pass) saw Fana 14-5 up. The yellow and blacks coughed up more opportunities of scoring with basic handling errors, but still maintained the lion’s share of possession. A Fana scrum on the Hus 10 metre line, had them score the last points of the match, with a great offload from banana hands Willie Wilson to Alex Diessner, scoring under the posts.
Final score 21-5
A great evening was had by all spectators and players – many thanks to the ref Karl Frisch for reffing.
